Exhibition Statement
"Marriage for Survival" focuses on their Iranian culture, where marriage is a cornerstone of femininity and the pressure to become a wife and mother serves as markers of a complete woman. In this body of work, the artist uses painting, performance, and photography to expose the institution of marriage not as a celebration—but as a means of survival.

Rojano Mohammadzadeh is a self-taught Iranian visual artist currently pursuing her MFA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her path into the art world began through architecture, where years of working on construction sites exposed her to the raw, often overlooked materials of the built environment. Collecting discarded fragments from these sites led to her first collages, and over time, her practice expanded into painting, sculpture, and performance.
