Exhibition Statement
"an anthology of arroyo logics” is a selection of works that explores place-based knowledges about high desert waterways. These works are transdisciplinary and collaborative, reflecting daniela del mar’s background of concrete poetry, independent publishing, eco-social practices, and the textile traditions carried by their matrilineal line. While this collection offers viewers a glimpse into the realities, grounding and heartbreaking, of del mar’s own ancestral lands and waters (the Choapa Valley Watershed in Coquimbo, Chile), it also holds a translocal mirror up to experiences around the Central Río Grande Valley. How does a person (or a river) sustain a place-based sense of self, if spirit and body are not always found in the same location?

daniela del mar (they/them/ellx, b. 1989) is a kiltrx, queer transdisciplinary artist and educator whose work combines book arts traditions with eco-social practices, often through public interventions. They center queer and ancestral knowledge to facilitate connection through concrete poetic forms, community book arts education, and collective authorship.
They have co-founded projects such as the Poetry Salon Broadside Project, a printed poetry series for QT/BIPOC writers, as well as letra chueca press, a spanglish press on transborder identity and latinx printing practices. Their work has been shown at the NY and LA Art Book Fairs, the Poetry Foundation in Chicago (IL), El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Parque Forestal in Wallmápu (Santiago de Chile), The Textile Museum in Iceland, The University of Puget Sound (WA), across Oregon, and now as a guest on Tiwa, Tewa, and Pueblo Territory (NM) where they are earning their MFA in Art & Ecology at the University of New Mexico.
